My Story

My interest in pianos began aged 8 in 1994 when I had my first lesson. The piano was a 6'6 Bluthner Grand and I quickly realised that I was more interested in the mechanism and workings of the piano rather than learning how to play it!

When I was 12 I was involved in the moving of a piano which increased my interest and curiosity in them as as soon as I was old enough, I was employed by a local piano tuner. I primarily moved pianos but soon progressed into a sales role alongside learning basic technician skills. By the time I was 18 I was more than capable of servicing pianos to a high standard and was encouraged to apply to a piano tuning course.

In 2005 I graduated from the Newark on Trent College with a Diploma in Classical Instrument Music Technology and in 2006 A.T Piano Services was established.

Since qualifying I have continued to build my customer base and have tuned over 3500 pianos in residential properties as well as more in schools, churches and concert venues across Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire.  I am proud to say I have also repaired, regulated and tuned pianos at a the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, the AO arena and Albert Hall in Manchester for Tim Minchin, John Lill and Guy Garvey.

Alongside my business I have also worked for the world renowned musical store in Manchester. I was employed here as their main internal piano mover, restorer and inspector and would tune for them when required.  I have also moved pianos to festivals and have been fortunate enough to be requested by customers to go to the Isle of Man to tune their pianos.

Outside of work I am a proud dad to Emma who has recently shown an interest in learning how to play the piano and has started lessons. My partner Laura and her son, Harry now complete the family business. Nutmeg the Labrador has also spent many hours with me both outside and inside of work and might officially be Staffordshire's top piano dog!

I am always happy to receive queries and new bookings and am happy to have a chat to you should you have any questions about my services. Please get in touch for more information
